Ofoegbu, Jackson pace Mustangs to first road victory, 71-54

LAWTON, Okla. - The goal was pretty simple Thursday afternoon at Aggie Gym, but it didn't make the accomplishment any less sweet.

Rosy Ofoegbu and Katiya Jackson combined for 33 points while setting season-highs to lead Midwestern State to its first road win in seven tries this season with a 71-54 win over Cameron.

"It's about time," Ofoegbu said. "We're just now playing as a team. Now, we are getting a feel for each other in a game situations. I wasn't thinking, but just playing today."

The 5-11 senior from San Antonio paced the Mustangs with 18 points on 7-of-9 shooting and was also credited with four rebounds and three assists, while Jackson took advantage of Cameron's packed-in 2-3 zone to net a season best 15 points to go along with five rebounds and two assists.

"They weren't playing me and I got some opportunities to slash on the backside of the zone," Jackson said.

Cameron immediately went to a zone any time MSU leading scorer Regiane Araujo stepped on the floor, but the 6-4 Brazilian still found space to land her third-straight and seventh double-double of the season with 10 points and 15 rebounds.

"The game plan was to get the ball in the paint," MSU coach Noel Johnson said. "Katiya did a good job of sneaking in, but they did a good job of surrounding ball (in the paint)."

The Mustangs, who had not won on the road since claiming a 71-55 win on Jan. 10, 2008 in Ada, heeded Johnson's pregame message.

"Our goal here was to play like we were defending our home floor," she said. "This is in our backyard and the kids did a great job."

Andrea Buben added 11 points and six rebounds for the Mustangs, who have now won three-straight times to improve to 5-8 on the season.

Midwestern hits the road again on Saturday when it takes on Southwestern Oklahoma State at Rankin Williams Fieldhouse in Weatherford. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.

Amber Schorer scored 15 points to pace the Aggies, who slipped to 5-7 on the season.
