WICHITA FALLS, Texas - Brittany O'Neal's goal in the 17th minute gave Midwestern State control as it shutout New Mexico Highlands 2-0 Sunday afternoon at the MSU Soccer Field.
The Mustangs improved to 2-2 taking their first two home matches of the season over the weekend, while New Mexico Highlands, which traveled with just 11 players, dropped to 1-2-1.
Midwestern State controlled possession throughout the match and dominated with 35 shots -14 on goal - while the Cowgirls managed just four shots putting none on frame.
The Mustangs were dangerous on combinations against a packed –in New Mexico Highlands defense.
MSU took advantage of a loose ball in the midfield in the 17th minute.
Kendra Clemons corralled the ball and served a pass to Brittany Subia down the right wing.
Subia beat the defender on the touchline. The cross was muffed by the keeper giving Brittany O'Neal a shot at the open net fir her first goal of the season.
Megan Bibilone added her second goal of the season in the 69th minute off the assists from Brandy O'Neal and Megan Hanlon to secure the lead for MSU.
The Mustangs return to action Thursday when they take on Incarnate Word at the MSU Soccer Field. Kick off is set for 4 p.m.
