PLAINVIEW, Texas – No. 23 Midwestern State struggled with its offense Monday night at Hutcherson Center.
So the Mustangs got defensive to force Wayland Baptist into 25 attack errors in a 25-15, 27-25, 25-17 win over Pioneers.
MSU matched the longest winning streak in school history by improving to 16-0 and will face Cameron Thursday night in Lawton. First serve is set for 7 p.m.

Shay Velasquez recorded 23 of the Mustangs' 64 digs, but received plenty of help on the back row as
Allison Schreiber finished with nine digs, while defensive specialists
Katie Guehler and
Kiara Jordan had eight and seven digs, respectively.
"We had to play defense because they kept getting balls up," MSU coach
Venera Flores-Stafford said. "It's the kind of defense we can play, but we just haven't had to do it. They are savvy and they got their hands on a lot of stuff."
Wayland Baptist, which fell to 8-2, had 53 digs of its own as Staci Wilt recorded 13 digs, Desiree Luevano added 12 and Anika Voigt finished with 10.
Midwestern hit .250 and committed just four errors in a 25-15 first-set win, but struggled to .189 and .103 kill rates in the second and third set. The Mustangs came into the match with a .311 team season hitting percentage.
But the Mustangs did have success on the outside attack as right-side hitter
Whitney Maxwell hit .273 with a team-high nine kills, outside hitter
Jessica Ransom hit .231 with seven kills and
Hillary White had six kills with a .278 kill percentage.
MSU middle blockers struggled to a -.043 hitting percentage and committed 13 of the Mustangs' 18 attack errors.
"They got their hands on a lot of shots and were altering a lot of swings," Flores-Stafford said. "They had some significant touches."
Schreiber finished with 30 assists as Midwestern recorded a team hitting percentage of .177.
