WARRENSBURG, Mo. – Central Missouri scored two goals in the closing eight minutes of the first half Friday night to claim a 2-0 season-opening win over Midwestern State in the Jennies Classic at UCM South Recreation Complex.
The Jennies, who advanced to the NCAA Division II regionals last season and ended the year with a 13-4-4- mark, avenged a 3-1 loss to the Mustangs in last season's opener in Wichita Falls.
Central Missouri's Angela Dobbie scored on an assist from Randi Fernsler in the 38th minute, and Lexie Bristow tacked on another goal four minutes later with help from Lindsay Hoerl.
The Mustangs were unable to mount a consistent attack as UCM limited them to just eight shots including three on goal, while MSU limited the Jennies to 14 shots with five of those landing on frame.
The Mustangs close out the Jennies Invitational against Truman (Mo.) State on Sunday. Kickoff is set for noon.
