SALISBURY, N.C. – Midwestern State shook off a long road trip and made short work of Tusculum (Tenn.) College in the Mustangs' season opener 25-19, 25-16, 25, 17 at the Catawba College Invitational.
"I felt like we didn't have a long enough preseason," MSU coach
Venera Flores-Stafford said. "It was nice to play other competition and get to work with the chemistry of different lineups."
Senior setter
Allison Schreiber directed an MSU attack which hit .544 for the match with 27 assists, while the front row dominated the net with 10.5 total blocks.
Junior middle blocker
Alysha Pritt led the Mustangs with eight kills and hit .500 while adding four digs and two blocks, while
Sesley Graves finished with seven kills and hit .545 with more blocks.
Senior outside hitter
Jessica Ransom finished with five kills, while freshman
Kiara Jordan led the team with nine digs in her collegiate debut.
Midwestern State faces host Catawba College this afternoon at 4 p.m.
