SALISBURY, N.C. – Midwestern State continued its strong attack to claim its second win at the Catawba College Invitational in a 25-20, 25-14, 25-21 victory over the host Indians.
Senior setter
Allison Schreiber ran the Mustangs' potent attack to the tune of a .319 hitting percentage to finish with 35 assists to go along with four kills, nine digs and a service ace.
"Allison has the team running very well right now," MSU coach
Venera Flores-Stafford said. "I'm looking for efficiency in our attack and I'm pretty happy with that."
Senior
Jessica Ransom led the way from the outside with an exception hitting game as she finished with eight kills and a .700 kill percentage, while freshman
Miranda Byrd had five kills and hit .571.
"The newcomers are picking up Allison's style of play and they are learning each other," Flores-Stafford said.
The Mustangs were able maintain a high level of consistency even as Flores-Stafford emptied the bench and toyed with different combinations of player on the floor.
"When you play the whole preseason against each other, it's hard to know who will play well with each other," she said. "This is very helpful."
Senior libero
Shay Velasquez paced the back row with 14 digs and added two service aces.
Midwestern State closes the invitational with matches against Fayetteville State and Lenoir-Rhyne College Saturday at 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., respectively.
