Aggies make MSU pay for miscues, takes Game 2 7-2

LAWTON, Okla. – Cameron turned four Midwestern State errors into six unearned runs as the Aggies pulled away for a 7-2 win in Game 2 to earn a split with the Mustangs in Lone Star Conference North Division play Saturday afternoon at Cameron Field.

The Aggies pounded two-run homers in the bottom of the first and third innings – each of them after MSU errors –, then put the game away with three runs in the fourth inning.

The Mustangs converted a Lindsey Voigt's leadoff double into a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning after she scored on Kristen Stonecipher's single to left field.

The lead was short lived as MSU center fielder dropped Sammi Adams' pop fly to lead off the second inning, then Megan Young connected for her 12th homer of the season to right-center field to give the Aggies a 2-1 edge.

The Mustangs knotted the game at 2-2 in the top of the third inning on Stonecipher's run-scoring infield single that plated Kellie Sledge, who had led off the inning with a single up the middle.

But Cameron had the answer in the bottom of the inning.

After Young reached when Stonecipher bobbled her grounder to third, Shareena Pulse crushed MSU starter Ashley Kunchenski's 2-0 offering over the left field fence for her 16th homer of the season to give CU a 4-2 advantage.

The Aggies piled on three more unearned runs in the fourth inning keyed by Young's two-run single through the box to give the Aggies a comfortable 7-2 lead.

Kuchenski was saddled for the loss and fell to 5-6 on the season after allowing seven runs – one earned – on five hits in 3 1/3 innings of work.

MSU ace Katie Petersen came on the fourth and threw 2 2/3 innings of scoreless softball while allowing one hit and striking out one.

Sherry Tetreault improved to 3-3 for Cameron after allowing two runs on five hits in 4 2/3 innings before Ashton McBride came on to hurl 2 1/3 innings of hitless relief.

Stonecipher and Voigt each went 2-for-3 for the Mustangs, who fell to 29-17 on the season and 10-6 in divisional play.

Young was 2-for-4 with two runs and four RBI for the Aggies, who improved to 27-23 and 5-7.

Midwestern State begins a four-game series with LSC North-leading Southeastern Oklahoma State Wednesday afternoon in Durant. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
