LAWTON, Okla. – Katie Petersen claimed her 20th win in her last 22 decisions and clubbed her first career home run to lead Midwestern State to a 4-1 win over Cameron Saturday in Game 1 at Cameron Field.
The Mustangs improved to 29-16 overall and 10-5 in Lone Star Conference North Division play, while Cameron dropped to 26-23 and 4-3.
Petersen fanned a season-high 11 while improving to 20-4 after starting the season 0-2. The sophomore from Plano allowed one run on three hits and walked none.
Petersen ran her scoreless inning streak to 30 2/3 innings before Cameron's Megan Young led off the bottom of the fourth inning with a homer to left-center field.
It was just the second home run Petersen allowed this season and was just one of four hits for the Aggies against Petersen in 15 innings this week as Petersen weaved a one-hit shutout against CU Wednesday in Wichita Falls.
Petersen gave the Mustangs a 2-1 lead in the top of the fourth when she launched Ashton McBride's first offering over the left-field fence for her career homer.
MSU struck for a run in the first after
Lindsey Voigt reached on a leadoff single and stole second. She would come around to score on Kristen Stoncipher's single to left.
After the Aggies closed to within 2-1 on Young's 11th homer of the season, MSU put the game away with a pair of runs in the fifth inning keyed by Alyson Reynold's run-scoring single down the right-field line and
Tabitha Yannetti's ringing double off of the base of the left-field fence.
Rodriguez paced a nine-hit Mustangs' attack by going 3-for-4, while Young accounted for two of Cameron's three hits.
Ashton McBride (18-14) took the loss for the Aggies after allowing four runs on eight hits, while walking three and striking out one.
