ABILENE, Texas – Abilene Christian used the long ball to account for seven runs as the Wildcats earned a split with Midwestern State Tuesday afternoon by taking Game 2 8-5 at Wells Field.
Jessica Shiery connected for a three-run homer in the first inning and Kim Partin launched a grand slam in the fourth to send the Mustangs their eighth loss in their last 11 games.
Midwestern State, which fell to 32-24, concludes the regular season on Saturday when it travels to Angelo State. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.
The Mustangs rallied to knot the game at 4-4 in the third when
Lauren Craig's two-run double keyed a three-run third inning after MSU cashed on an Abilene Christian error to plate a run in the second.
But the Wildcats loaded the bases with one out in the fourth on Midwestern starter
Brittney Tanner before Partin homered to left field as ACU surged back ahead 8-4.
Tanner allowed eight runs –seven earned – on 10 hits in four innings to fall to 8-6, while ACU starter Kim White improved to 8-6 after allowing four runs – three earned – on six hits if five innings.
White slipped out of a bases-loaded jam in the fifth inning by inducing
Alyson Reynolds to roll into a 4-6 fielder's choice after MSU left three runners on in the second after scoring one run.
The Mustangs stranded nine runners, but did manage to scratch for a run in the sixth inning off of Abilene Christian reliever Jacque Gregoire, who came on to pitch the final two innings.

Ashley Kuchenski extended her career-best and team season high hitting streak to 10 games when she reached on an infield single in the second inning then added a double in the fourth.
She was 2-for-3 at the plate and pitched a pair of scoreless innings while allowing two hits and fanning one.
Craig and Rodriguez also added two hits each for the Mustangs.
