TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – Northeastern State's Lacee Craig was effectively wild in lead the RiverHawks to a 1-0 win over Midwestern State in Game 2 Tuesday afternoon at RiverHawks Field.
Craig limited the Mustangs to one hit – a leadoff double by
Ashley Kuchenski in the fifth inning – and didn't allow a runner past second base despite walking eight batters.
The junior right hander improved to 12-8 while stranding all nine Mustangs to reach base without the benefit of a strikeout.
Northeastern State kept its slim postseason hopes alive by improving to 21-20 on the season and 6-12 in the Lone Star Conference North Division, while MSU fell to 30-22 and 11-11.
The Mustangs can clinch its fifth-straight berth into the Lone Star Conference postseason tournament with one win over the RiverHawks Saturday afternoon in a double dip at Mustangs Park. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
The RiverHawks need to sweep MSU Saturday, the win all four of their contests against Southwestern Oklahoma State next week. One more loss eliminates Northeastern State.
NSU scored the only run of the game in the third inning after Brandy Kimberlin reached on a leadoff bunt single.
She advanced to second on Shaelyn Moore's sacrifice bunt, then to third on Aimee Bohannan's single to left field.
Kimberlin scored on Melissa Simms' ground to the pitcher.
Brittney Tanner took the loss for MSU to fall to 4-8 while allowing one run on six hits. She struck out two and walked two.
Bohannan, Kimberlin and Brooke Smith each had two hits to account all of Northeastern State's six hits.
