ARLINGTON, Texas – No. 29 Midwestern State snapped a two-match losing skid with a 9-0 blanking of Dallas Baptist Saturday afternoon at the Arlington Tennis Center.
The Mustangs, who improved to 12-6 on the season, got off to a flying start in doubles led by
Vjekoslav Stipanic and
Zac Dillard at No. 1.
Stipanic and Dillard improved to 8-2 as a doubles' tandem by dispatching Dallas Baptist's Brett Sticker and Bronson Vaughan, 8-2.
Travis Stegner and
Chip Threadgill followed the same formula for an 8-2 win over Josh King and Justin Hannah at No. 2, while MSU's
Chad Meeks and
Daniel McMullan outlasted Clint Baird and Richard Vo 9-7 at No. 3.
Dillard improved to 1-2 at No. 1 singles by defeating Sticker 6-2, 6-2. Dillard is now 12-6 this spring in singles' competition.
Stegner upended Vo 7-5, 6-1 at No. 2, while Stipanic rolled Baird in straight sets 6-1, 6-2.
McMullan improved his singles' mark to 13-4 in his freshman campaign by defeating King 6-4, 6-3.
Threadgill beat DBU's Steven Trabrizi at No. 5 6-4, 6-3 and
John Svard won over the Patriots' Matthew Nations 6-1, 6-2 at No. 6.
The Mustangs travel to Tyler Junior College next Wednesday before competing in the Lone Star Conference championships on beginning April 25 in Abilene.
