MSU unable to overcome Wildcats in LSC semifinals

ABILENE, Texas – No. 13 Abilene Christian rolled to a 5-2 win over No. 29 Midwestern State Friday afternoon in the Lone Star Conference Championship Semifinals at ACU's Eager Tennis Center.

The Wildcats (19-9) advance to the conference title match and will Cameron, which claimed a 5-0 win over East Central in the other semifinal on Friday afternoon.

The teams battle for the conference crown Saturday at the Eager Tennis Center with a first serve of 9 a.m.

The Mustangs (12-7) claimed an 8-6 win at No. 1 doubles as Zac Dillard and Vjekoslav Stipanic upended Juan Nunez and Ryan Hudson.

But ACU rallied to take a 2-1 advantage after doubles' play after rallying at the Nos. 2 and 3 positions.

Daniel McMullan gave the Mustangs hope by claiming a straight-set 6-4, 6-3 win over Brian Joiner at the No. 4 spot, but the Wildcats closed with three singles wins to close the match.

Midwestern State awaits the final South Central Region rankings next week as they effort to man an 11th-straight appearance in the NCAA Division II national tournament.
