East Central upends Mustangs in Game 2, 7-2

ADA, Okla. – Stefanie Watson's three-run double highlighted a four-run fifth inning as East Central came away with a 7-2 win over Midwestern State in Game 2 Saturday afternoon at Lady Tigers Field.

East Central earned a split with the Mustangs after MSU claimed the first game by a 4-2 margin.

It also marked the first time the Mustangs have lost a game to East Central as MSU now leads the all-time series 17-1.

Midwestern State, which fell to 19-12 overall and 6-4 in the Lone Star Conference North Division, concludes its season series against the Lady Tigers Monday afternoon at Mustangs Park. First pitch for the doubleheader is set for 1 p.m.

The Mustangs took an early lead when Jessica Rodriguez's run-scoring single plated Amanda Potysman I the top of the third inning.

But the Lady Tigers surged into the lead with three runs in the bottom of the third highlighted by Hillary Hughes' two-run double to center field.

East Central built on the lead after loading the bases with one out in the bottom of the fifth.

After ECU's Stephannie Larriba increased the Lady Tiger advantage to 4-2 with a one-out, RBI single, Midwestern State starter Brittany Tanner fanned Kim Littleton for the second out of the inning, Watson cleared the bases to give ECU a commanding five-run lead.

Tanner allowed seven runs –all earned – on eight hits while striking out three and walking two in six innings, while Dana McLaren (5-6) earned the win for the Lady Tigers after allowing two runs on eight hits in a complete-game victory.

Rodriguez paced MSU by going 3-for-4 at the plate, while Potysman responded with a pair of hits after being dropped to the No. 9 hole.

MSU starting center fielder Maranda Bishop left the game in the second inning after reaching base with a single in the first inning. She had sustained an ankle injury in Game 1 of the twin bill.
