No. 36 Mustangs upend East Central, 5-4

ADA, Okla. – No. 36 Midwestern State made a one-match doubles' lead stand up for a 5-4 win over No. 35 East Central Wednesday afternoon at the ECU Tennis Courts.

The Mustangs, who improved to 11-3 on the season, claimed wins at the top two doubles' positions as Karim Belhadj and Vjekoslav Stipanic got an 8-6 win at No. 1, while Zac Dillard and Daniel McMullan teamed for an 8-4 victory at No. 2.

Belhadj and McMullan keyed a singles split as Belhadj won his third-straight match to improve to 9-3 a the top singles position with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Pyotir Sitnikov.

McMullan, a 6-3 freshman from Houston, improved to 11-2 in singles' play by defeating Victor Rios 6-1, 6-2 at the No. 5 spot.

But it was Dillard who provided the winning margin by working for a three-set decision over Chris Kriel claiming a 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 win to seal the match for the Mustangs.

Midwestern State plays host to Collin County Thursday afternoon at the MSU Tennis Courts. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
