DENTON, Texas - Kristen Stonecipher slugged her second career grand slam to help Midwestern State dismantle Henderson State 13-0 in five innings Saturday at the Texas Woman's Tournament at Ryan High School.
Stonecipher's blast highlighted a five-run second inning as the the Mustangs took a commanding 6-0 lead after the first two innings.
It was the senior third baseman's second early season grand slam as she hit her first four-run shot as part of a two-homer game on Feb. 2, 2007 against Southern Arkansas at the St. Mary's Classic last season.
But the hits kept coming for the Mustangs as junior
Samantha Holmes led off a seven-run third inning with a home run to left field as the Mustangs mashed out four hits and took advantage of a pair of Henderson State errors to build a commanding 13-0 lead after three.
Sophomore
Katie Petersen took advantage of the run support to earn her first win of the season with a five-inning shutout of the Reddies. She allowed three hits while striking out five and walking three.
Midwestern State evened its season record at 3-3, while the Reddies fell to 0-1.
