Tanner pitches well, but St. Mary’s wins 4-0

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - St. Mary's jumped on Midwestern State starter Britney Tanner early then held on for a 4-0 win in Sunday's finale at the St. Mary's NCAA II Classic Classic.

Tanner allowed three runs - two earned - in the first two inning before buckling down to a allow a run on two hits in the final four innings in what proved to be an encouraging outing agianst a periennial top flight program.

St. Mary's ace Malissa Magee improved to 3-0 with a three-hit shutout while striking out seven.

Lindsey Voigt, Maranda Bishop and Jessica Rodrigue each had hits for the Mustangs, while Bishop recorded her first two stolen bases of the season.

MSU's Kristen Stonecipher was named to the all-tournament after hitting .333 (5-for-15) with three doubles and five RBIs.

The Mustangs, which fell to 2-3, travel to the Texas Woman's Tournament next weekend in Denton.

St. Mary's went 4-1 during the season opening tournament.
