LAWTON, Okla. – No. 32 Midwestern State had its eight-match winning streak snapped by No. 22 Southwest Baptist (Mo.) 6-3 Friday afternoon at the Cameron University Tennis Complex.
But the Mustangs bounced back to beat Southeastern Oklahoma State 5-4 to improve to 9-3 on the season.
Midwestern State closes the Cameron Quad competition by facing St. Mary's (Texas) Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
The Mustangs fell at the No. doubles' position for just the second time this season as SBU's No. 22-ranked duo of Daniel Prerad and Emilio El Alabi defeated
Karim Belhadj and
Daniel McMullan as the Bulldogs came away with a 2-1 advantage after doubles.
MSU's
Daniel McMullan extended his singles' winning streak to eight matches, but had to survive Prerad in a tiebreaker at No. 4. McMullan won 4-6, 6-3 and 10-8 in the tiebreaker.
Chad Meeks claimed the Mustangs other singles' win at No. 6, while
Chip Threadgill and
Travis Stegner teamed for the lone MSU doubles' win at No. 3.
The top half of the Midwestern lineup led the way in the victory over Southeastern Oklahoma.
Belhadj teamed with
Vjekoslav Stipanic to claim a No. 1 doubles' win over Jaime Nunez and Matt Kelso, while
Zac Dillard and McMullan beat Jesse Buchanan and Blake Scott at No. 2 to give MSU a 2-1 lead going into singles' play.
Belhadj shook off a two-match singles skid with a three-set win over SOSU's Ben Disley 7-5, 3-6, 6-3, while Stipanic won in straight sets over Luiz Ramos at No. 2.
McMullan claimed his ninth consecutive win at No. 4, claiming a 6-3, 6-1 win over Matt Kelso.
