WICHITA FALLS, Texas – No. 32 Midwestern State survived a pair of close doubles' matches, then rolled to a 6-3 win over Metro State (Colo.) Thursday afternoon at the MSU Tennis Courts.
The Mustangs' top doubles tandem of
Zac Dillard and
Vjekoslav Stipanic survived Metro State's Sascha Ruckelshausen and Riley Meyer 8-6, while
Karim Belhadj and
Chip Threadgill came with a 9-7 decision over Sean Carlton and Angelo Faustino at No. 2.
Meanwhile,
Travis Stegner and
Daniel McMullan teamed for an 8-1 victory over Metro's Blake Howard and Ryan Campbell at No. 3 to give MSU a 3-0 sweep in doubles.
The Mustangs clinched the win after the first two singles matches came off of the court.
McMullan claimed a 6-1, 6-2 win over Carlton at No. 5, then Dillard came away with a 6-2, 7-5 decision over Faustino at No. 3 to give the Mustangs their seventh-straight win of the season.
Chad Meeks gave MSU its other singles' victory, taking a 6-3, 6-4 decision over Howard at the No. 6 position.
Dillard and Stipanic improved to 6-0 as a doubles' tandem, while Dillard claimed his eighth-straight single's win to improve to 8-2 this spring.
McMullan has now won seven-straight between the No. 4 and No. 5 positions and improved to 7-2.
The Mustangs faces No. 22 Southwest Baptist (Mo.) Friday at the Cameron Quad in Lawton.
