CLEARWATER, Fla. - Midwestern State fell to host Eckerd College 3-0 in a rain-shortened contest Saturday morning at the Eddie C. Moore Complex.
The Mustangs had two-on with one out in the top of the sixth before heavy rains washed away Day 2 of the Eckerd Spring Invitational.
MSU freshman Brittany Tanner fell to 1-3 and was the victim of a pair of Mustangs' error in the fourth inning that allowed the Tritons to score a pair of unearned runs. Tanner allowed just one earned run on three hits while striking out three and walking one.
The Mustangs strung a pair of singles together in the top of the sixth by
Maranda Bishop and
Kristen Stonecipher as the rain began with clean-up hitter
Jessica Rodriguez in the box.
Midwestern State (9-6) was originally slated to face Saint Leo (Fla.) later in the afternoon with a single-elimination tournament following on Sunday.
The Mustangs will now face Saint Leo and the University of Tampa (Fla.) Sunday morning at 8 and 10 a.m. (CST), respectively.
The tournament championship will be decided from the pool play results.
The Mustangs claimed wins over Palm Beach Atlantic (9-5) and Nova Southeastern (8-2) Friday afternoon at the invitational.
