Abilene Christian outlasts Mustangs, 73-64

ABILENE, Texas - Midwestern State holds the patent for containing Abilene Christian star center Audrey Maxwell.

The Mustangs limited junior to a single field goal as Maxwell fouled out in just 11 minutes Saturday night at Moody Coliseum.

But Alex Guiton poured in a team-high 19 points and ACU scored 27 bench points to pull away for a 73-64 win over the Mustangs.

The Mustangs held Maxwell without a field goal in an 85-63 win over Abilene Christian last month in Wichita Falls, then limited the center to a 1-of-3 shooting night as she finished with two points while fouling out in 11 minutes.

Maxwell was fifth in the conference in scoring at 17.5 points per game coming into Saturday's contest.

Midwestern State's losing skid reaches five games as the Mustangs fell to 9-16 on the season and 3-9 in the LSC South.

Abilene Christian extended its winning streak to eight games while improving to 16-9 and 10-2.

Abilene Christian took control of the game with a 19-5 run midway through the second half and led 58-44 on Kat Kundmueller's 13-foot transition runner with 10:41 remaining.

The Wildcats would lead by as many as 18 until the Mustangs pair the advantage to nine on a Kaylon Hodge jumper with 18 seconds remaining.

Junior forward Rosy Ofoegbu notched her fourth double-double of the season to lead the Mustangs with 15 points and 11 rebounds while blocking four shots and adding three steals.

Senior forward Brittni Morrison finished with 11 points on three 3-pointers, while Brandy Moore and Kaylon Hodge had 10 points each.
