WICHITA FALLS, Texas - Stacey Staten forced the game into overtime with a clutch 3-point basket, but it wasn't enought as Angelo State escaped D.L. Ligon Coliseum Wednesday night with a 96-89 victory over the Mustangs.
MSU trailed by as many as 15 points until a Staten layup sparked a 15-3 run to get within one point with 1:40 left in the contest.
Staten, who was only shooting 12 percent from behind the arc, drained her most important attempt with eight seconds left in regulation off an assist from
Rosy Ofoegbu.
In the extra period, MSU managed only eight points before Angelo State went on a 7-0 run at the 2:26 mark to edge out the Mustangs.
With the loss, Midwestern State drops to 9-15 on the season and 3-8 in Lone Star Conference play. Angelo State improves to 20-6 and 7-4 in conference play.
Staten led the Mustangs with 22 points, followed by juniors
Rosy Ofoegbue,
Kaylon Hodge and
Brandy Moore with 14 points a piece. Ofoegbue also pulled down six boards, while senior Brittany Morrison added 10 points and eight rebounds.
Kandra Lakey paced the Rambelles with a game-high 30 points and 10 rebounds, while Camille Perkins added 24 points and five boards.
MSU returns to action Saturday when they take on Abilene Christian at Moody Coliseum. Tip off is set for 6 p.m.
