WICHITA FALLS, Texas - Britney Jordan poured in 30 points to lead Texas A&M-Commerce to a 79-72 win over Midwestern State in Lone Star Conference crossover play Wednesday night at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.
The senior guard scored 23 points in the second half to turn away a determined effort by the Mustangs, who fell to 1-6 on the season.
MSU junior guard
Andrea Buben matched a career with 19 points including a career-high five 3-pointers as part of a pack of four Mustangs to finish in double figures.
Senior post
Regiane Araujo notched her second double-double of the season to finish with 20 points and 11 rebounds, while
Michele Kenney added 12 points and
Cierra Thompson chipped in 11 points and six assists.
Behind the efforts of Jordan and junior guard Nakazi Glover, who added 18 points for the Lions, Texas A&M-Commerce led by as many as 12 points after sophomore guard Genevieve Campbell banged in a 3-pointer with 10:16 to go in the second half as TAMUC led 62-50.
The Mustangs trimmed the deficit to five points on two occasions, but missed a pair of 3-pointers in the final five minutes of the contest which would have pulled MSU back to within a possession.
Midwestern State continues its three-game homestand Thursday night when it plays host to the University of Texas of the Permian Basin at D.L. Ligon Coliseum. Tipoff for that contest is set for 7 p.m.
Texas A&M-Commerce improved to 5-2.
