TOPEKA, Kan. - No. 20 Midwestern State played No. 15 Truman (Mo.) tight for two sets Saturday at the Washburn Lady Blues Fall Classic before succumbing 25-23, 27-25, 25-18 at Lee Arena.
The Mustangs finished the weekend 1-3 and will carry a 19-3 season record into their Lone Star Conference at East Central on Thursday.
MSU used a 4-0 spurt in the opening set to crawl to within 24-23 before Truman's Lisa Weber's kill gave Truman a 25-23 win.
The Mustangs failed to convert on four set points in the second second as the Bulldogs scored eight of the last nine points to take the second set then put away the match 25-18.
Despite the loss, Midwestern once again put up great defensive as they limited the Bulldogs to a .187 team hitting percentage.
