TOPEKA, Kan. - Midwestern State rebounded from its first losses of the season to thump Missouri Western Saturday morning at the Washburn (Kan.) Lady Blues Fall Classic at Lee Arena.
"It was an all-around good match for us," MSU coach
Venera Flores-Stafford said. "We just took the losses as a learning experience and came back to play our regular match."
The win was Flores-Staffords' 100th since taking over the reins at MSU in 2004 and 208th of her career after winning 108 matches at the University of Dallas.
The Mustangs used another solid defensive effort as the team recorded 13 total blocks and frustrated the Griffons into a .149 team attack percentage.
Junior middle blocker
Sesley Graves led the block party with five total blocks, while
Whitney Maxwell,
Miranda Byrd and
Allison Schreiber added four each.
Libero
Shay Velasquez paced the back row with a match-high 15 digs.
Senior outside hitter
Jessica Ransom paced the stout Midwestern attack with 13 kills while committing a single error in 19 attempts to hit .632.
Schreiber also directed the MSU offensive to a .357 team kill rate with 36 assists. The Windthorst native also added six digs and three service aces.
The Mustangs (19-2) close the classic against No. 15 Truman (Mo.) this afternoon at 3 p.m.
Missouri Western fell to 3-18.
