PORTALES, N.M. - A return to early season offensive form allowed Midwestern State to bury Eastern New Mexico 25-18, 25-17, 25-20 Saturday morning at Greyhound Arena.
"As a team, we played very well," MSU coach
Venera Flores-Stafford said. "It was one of our best offensive games in a while. It's good to see the offense is coming back together."
Senior middle blocker
Alysha Pritt paced the Mustangs with 12 and hit .421 and added five digs, but senior right-side hitter
Whitney Maxwell was the most productive. Maxwell didn't commit an error and finished with seven kills to hit .583.
But it was a solid all-around effort on the offensive end as
Jessica Ransom finished eight kills and hit .300, while
Miranda Byrd and
Sesley Graves had six kills each.
Senior setter
Allison Schreiber piloted the Mustangs to a team hitting percentage of .388 with 44 assists while also added seven digs.
Senior libero
Shay Velasquez led the back row effort with 18 digs.
Midwestern State, who improved 22-7 overall and 5-3 in the Lone Star Conference, returns to D.L. Ligon Coliseum for a pair of league matches against Angelo State at 7 p.m. on Thursday and Abilene Christian at 6 p.m. on Saturday.
Eastern New Mexico fell to 6-23 and 0-8.
