TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – Midwestern State faced many obstacles Sunday afternoon at the NSU Soccer Field.
It was MSU eight-straight road match and the Mustangs were without three significant contributors.
So
Kelsey Hill and
Brandy O'Neal stepped up a notch to record a goal and an assist each to lead Midwestern to a 3-0 win over Northeastern State.
"I couldn't be happier with how well the girls responded," MSU coach
Jeff Trimble said.
The Mustangs, who improved to 8-6 on the season and 3-3 in the Lone Star Conference, return home for the final five games of the regular season beginning Tuesday against Texas A&M International. The non-conference tilt is slated for a 4 p.m. kickoff.
After the teams battled to a scoreless opening half, Hill took a pass from O'Neal, worked around a defender and beat reigning LSC Goalkeeper of the Week Patricia Nardy to give MSU a 1-0 lead in the 49th minute.
The Mustangs added two more goals within a span of 10 minute off of a pair of one-touch goals on perfect crosses.
Hill worked on the touchline and served a ball to
Kendra Clemons in the 52nd minute before
Brittany Subia found O'Neal for another goal in the 59th minute.
With the win, the Mustangs improved to 5-3 on the marathon road trip which included the first six games of the conference schedule.
Northeastern State dropped to 5-6-3 overall and 2-2-2 in the LSC.
