Midwestern State suffers 2-1 set back to Pioneers

DENTON, Texas – Theresa Sanches blasted in a deflection in the 80th minute to give Texas Woman's University a 2-1 Lone Star Conference win over Midwestern State Sunday afternoon at the TWU Soccer Field.

The Mustangs, who have now lost two straight and three of their last four, fell to 6-6 on the season and 1-3 in the LSC.

Midwestern State continued the trend of outshooting its opponent as the Mustangs held an 18-15 edge over the Pioneers, including a 10-4 advantage in the second half.

The Mustangs have outshot the opposition in each of the their last 10 matches, but managed a single goal on junior midfielder Kari Bristow's blast on a free kick in the 59th minute which proved to be an equalizer after TWU's Elizabeth Babb scored in the 48th minute.

Babb earned an ejection in the 61st minute, but the Mustangs were unable to take advantage as Sanches notched the game winner with the Pioneers a player down.

Midwestern State continues with its last two matches of an eight-game road stretch with games at East Central (Okla.) next Friday and at Northeastern State (Okla.) on Sunday.

The Mustangs will play their final five games of the regular at the MSU Soccer Field.
