ADA, Okla. – Midwestern State stole victory from the jaws of defeat Friday afternoon taking a 2-1 result from East Central at Lady Tigers' Field.
With the Mustangs within five seconds of tasting their third-straight defeat, junior midfielder
Kari Bristow drove a free kick into the East Central box.
Freshman forward
Kelsey Hill leaped high and sent a header into the net as time expired to send the match into overtime.
"It was one of the most exciting soccer games I've ever seen," MSU coach
Jeff Trimble said. "We probably should have lost that game."
The Mustangs received good fortune Lindsey Pritchard was taken down from behind while making desperation run with less than 10 seconds to play.
East Central's Sydney Kromer was issued a yellow card and five seconds was placed on the clock allowing Bristow to lineup the free kick to send the match into extra time.
Naturally, MSU then waited until the final minute of the second overtime to net the winner.
Sophomore
Brandy O'Neal threaded a through ball to
Brittany Subia, who then beat East Central keeper Natalie Wilson from 15 yards out for the game winner.
The Mustangs, who improved to 7-6 on the season and 2-3 in Lone Star Conference play, outshot the Lady Tigers by a 31-7 margin while placing 15 on goal.
The MSU defense limited East Central to just three shots on frame, but Katie Beth Benson's goal in the 47th minute gave ECU a lead it would not relinquish until the final second of regulation.
The Mustangs complete an eight-game road swing against Northeastern State Sunday afternoon in Tahlequah. First kick is set for 1 p.m.
East Central fell to 4-8-2 overall and 0-5-1 in conference.
