Mustangs suffer third-straight setback, fall to SOSU 3-0

DURANT, Okla. - Southeastern Oklahoma State held on for close 25-23 wins in the opening two sets, then put away No. 21 Midwestern State 25-16 in the set Saturday afternoon at Bloomer Sullivan Gym.

The Mustangs, who fell to 19-5 overall and 3-2 in the Lone Star Conference, have now lost their last three matches and five of its last six after opening the season with 18-straight wins.

The Savage Storm improved to 14-8 and 2-4.

Southeastern Oklahoma scored four of the last five points in the opening set after a Jessica Ransom kill gave MSU 22-21 edge

The Mustangs ran out to a 17-11 lead in the second set, but 11 MSU attack errors allowed the Savage Storm to claw back for a 25-23 win to take a commanding two-set lead.

Senior outside hitter Jessica Ransom paced Midwestern with 10 kills, while senior right-side hitter Whitney Maxwell added nine kills and freshman middle blocker Miranda Byrd had eight.

Senior setter Allison Schreiber finished with 33 assists as the Mustangs finished with a team hitting percentage of .140.

Freshman Hillary White had 12 digs to lead the back row effort, while senior libero Shay Velasquez added 11.

Midwestern State plays host to Texas A&M-Kingsville Thursday night at D.L. Ligon Coliseum. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
