COMMERCE, Texas – Midwestern State did everything coach
Jeff Trimble asked them to accomplish Friday afternoon at the A&M-Commerce Soccer Field.
"I asked them to be physical, be intense and to create good opportunities," MSU coach
Jeff Trimble said. "They did everything I asked them to do."
But it wasn't enough to overcome Texas A&M-Commerce as the Lions got a goal from Chelsey Haight in the 107th minute to take a 2-1 result in double overtime.
"It was 107 minutes of good, intense soccer," Trimble said. "It's hard to come out on the losing end of that."
The Mustangs, who fell to 6-5 on the season and 1-2 in the Lone Star Conference, travel to Denton to take on Texas Woman's University Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m.
"We had some really good chances in the first overtime," Trimble said. "Commerce is a good team and very physical, but our girls matched their intensity on the field."
Midwestern State pushed ahead in the 58th minute when freshman
Kelsey Hill slammed a shot off of teammate
Kendra Clemons after collecting a misclear.
The Lions retaliated with an Emma Stubblefield goal in the 69th minute before Haight notched the game winner nearly seven minutes into the second overtime.
Texas A&M-Commerce improved to 8-2-1 overall and 2-1 in the LSC.
