WICHITA FALLS, Texas - Midwestern State's
Jeremy Ford came a 3-pointer shy of tying a school record, but his game-high 24 points wasn't enough to pull the Mustangs past No. 21 Central Oklahoma as the Bronchos came away with an 82-67 win Saturday night at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.
The Mustangs, who saw their six game winning streak go by the wayside, battled Central Oklahoma to three ties and three lead changes as the Bronchos maintained a 32-30 lead going into the intermission.
But Central Oklahoma outscored the Mustangs 26-9 in the first 12 minutes of the second half to build a seemingly insurmountable 22-point bulge at 61-39 with 8:06 to go.
The Mustangs chipped to within seven on two occasions, but each time Central Oklahoma buoyed the run to push the Bronchos' advantage to double figures.
Ford, who hit four treys in each half, went 8-for-12 from the arc and was joined in double figures by
Nolan Richardson IV, who had 13 points, while
Chris Davis added a season-low 10.
Eric Cazanave led a group of six Bronchos in double figures as the sophomore guard finished with 17 points, while junior guard David Thomas added 13.
Lone Star Conference North Division Preseason Player of the Year Sam Belt was limited to 11 points and forced into eight turnovers, while finishing with six rebounds and five steals.
Midwestern State completes the crossover portion of its schedule with a pair of games on the road against East Central (Okla.) on Thursday and Southeastern Oklahoma State on Saturday.
Central Oklahoma improved to 10-4.
