MSU battles Southwest Baptist to a 1-1 draw

EDMOND, Okla. – Midwestern State converted a corner kick opportunity in the 88th minute to preserve a 1-1 tie against Southwest Baptist (Mo.) Saturday afternoon at Central Oklahoma's Tom Thompson Field.

The Mustangs (3-0-2) fell behind in the 67th minute when Southwest Baptist's Dominie Emmanuel flicked a ball over charging MSU keeper Heather Primavera to give the Bearcats a 1-0 lead.

Midwestern battled back until Cassidy Guice put a head on Kari Bristow's serve from the corner to knot the match at 1-1.

The Mustangs dominated play throughout the first half with an 9-3 shot advantage before Southwest Baptist rallied for a 9-6 edge in the second.

MSU would control the tempo in the extra sessions to the tune of an 8-2 shot edge, but was unable to convert an opportunity.

Primavera surrendered her second goal of the season, but not before extending her scoreless streak to 408:44 – the fourth longest streak in program history.

The Mustangs will enjoy an 11-day break before returning to Edmond to open Lone Star Conference play against Central Oklahoma on Sep. 19, 2007.
