WICHITA FALLS, Texas - Midwestern State needed four games to extend its 11-game winning streak in a LSC conference opening win over Texas Woman's University Thursday night in front of 517 fans at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.
Senior outside hitter,
Krissa Johnson led the Mustangs with 15 kills and added three blocks, while
Jessica Ransom and
Sesley Graves had 12 and 10 kills respectively.
Shay Velasquez had a game-high of 16 digs and two aces, while Allison Schrieber racked up 48 assists.Â
During the first game, the Mustangs saw TWU's potential. The second game started with a struggle, even with a comeback MSU still came up short.
Johnson emphatically turned the tide by putting away the first three kills and finished with six for the game. The Mustangs came out strong during the third game. The fourth and final game was a nail biter because neither team was willing to give up the match.
"During the second game we lost our focus, but we found our focus and intensity. I am very proud of the girls," coach
Venera Flores-Stafford said. "Our student support has been phenomenal and picked us up when we were down tonight."
The Mustangs, who improved to 13-2 on the season and 1-0 in conference play, return to action when they play host to Texas A&M-Commerce at 7 p.m. Saturday night.
Texas Woman's fell to 6-7 and 0-1.
