OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – No. 29 Midwestern State avenged a regular season loss to No. 14 Cameron by upending the Aggies 5-1 in the semifinals of the Lone Star Conference Tournament at the Oklahoma City Tennis Center Thursday afternoon.
MSU (10-8) entered the tournament as the third seed, while Cameron (20-5) was the No. 2.
MSU was led again by the All-American duo of
Brett Emerson and
Zac Dillard. The No. 22-ranked doubles squad beat Cameron's No. 10-ranked duo of Tin Hinst and Jordi Mullor 9-8 at No. 1 doubles.
Emerson, ranked No. 17 in singles, then dispatched Hinst 6-3, 6-2 at No. 1 singles, while Dillard ripped Ignacio Murgier 6-1, 6-1 at No. 4.
Travis Stegner was a part of the other two MSU triumphs, teaming with
Stefan McKinney at No. 3 doubles to down Murgier and Daniel Graziani 8-4, then winning at No. 6 singles over Vitas Van Dijk 6-3, 6-1.
MSU will seek to defend it's 2006 LSC Championship at 9 a.m. Friday against No. 28 Abilene Christian, a 5-0 winner in the other semifinal.
