Mustangs Take Two From Lady Reds

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. -- The Midwestern State softball team picked up two key Lone Star Conference North Division wins, beating 11th ranked Northeastern State (Okla.) on the road, 3-0 in game one, and 3-1 in game two. The wins give the Mustangs a season sweep on the Lady Reds.

In game one, MSU (36-13) pitcher Katie Petersen pitched six and two/thirds innings before giving up her first hit of the game. She finished the game allowing two hits and striking out 14, in picking up win number 20. The Mustangs received back to back homeruns in the top of the third, a two run shot by Jessica Rodriguez and then a solo homerun by Kristen Stonecipher.

In the second game, the Mustangs scored two runs in the top of the fourth on a two run single by Tara Staten, and then added a Rodriguez sacrifice fly in the top of the seventh. Pitcher Ashley Kuchenski had another solid game, allowing five hits and striking out three batters, with her record on the season moving to 16-3.

Midwestern will take on Texas Women's University Wednesday, in a game that has been moved from Tuesday. The two teams will play a doubleheader, with game one set to start at 2:00 p.m. at Skip Brown Field.
