WICHITA FALLS, Texas - Midwestern State constructed a 12-0 run in the second half to surge past St. Edward's 70-53 Saturday at D.L. Ligon Coliseum as the Mustangs improved to a perfect 4-0 on their home floor this season.
MSU, which improved to 5-4 on the season, continue its homestand Thursday and Saturday when it plays host to Lone Star Conference North Division foes Northeastern State and Central Oklahoma. Both games kickoff doubleheaders and tip off at 6 p.m.
The Mustangs and Hilltoppers swapped the lead 11 times before MSU junior guard
Brandy Moore ignited a 12-0 run with one of her five 3-pointers of the game at the 11:32 mark.
Moore would pace a quartet of Mustangs in double figures with a game-high 15 points.
But sophomore forward
Andrea Buben canned another trey after
Stacey Staten converted a pair of free throw to give the Mustangs their first double-figure lead of the night at 55-44 with 8:34 to play.
Rosy Ofoegbu culminated the run by following a pair of charity tosses with a steal and a layup to give MSU a commanding 59-44 advantage with 7:20 to play.
St. Edward's Sara Head, who led the Hilltoppers with 14 points and 10 rebounds, ended the run when she followed a Haley Tidwell missed jumper with an offensive board and layup with 6:49 to go.
The Hilltoppers, who fell to 2-10, held a decisive advantage on the glass (43-30), but were were only able to convert 11 second-chance points as the Mustangs continued to pull away down the stretch.
Kaylon Hodge finished with season highs in points, rebounds and assists as the 5-4 senior from Hillsboro finished with 12 points, seven rebounds and six assists, while
Brittni Morrison pitched in 12 points and pulled down five rebounds.
Ofoegbu added 11 points, three rebounds and three steal.
St. Edward's forward Charron Sumler joined Head in double figures for the Hilltoppers, scoring 12 points and grabbing six rebounds.
