Richardson leads Mustangs to fifth-straight win, 75-63

WICHITA FALLS, Texas - Nolan Richardson IV poured in a season-high 30 points to lead Midwestern State to its fifth straight win Saturday night as the Mustangs pulled away for a 75-63 victory at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.

The Mustangs, who improved to 6-4 on the season, return to Lone Star Conference crossover play next Thursday when they play host to Northeastern State (Okla.) at D.L. Ligon Coliseum. Tipoff is set for 8 p.m.

Richardson outscored St. Mary's in the first half as the Mustangs limited the Rattlers to 17 first-half points while forcing them into an equal number of turnovers.

The 6-1 junior guard from Tulsa hit on five of his nine shots from the field and all six of his charity tosses for 19 points before intermission.

The Mustangs, who would never trail in the contest, took their biggest lead into half time after Richardson connected on a 3-pointer from the corner to give MSU a 26-17 lead.

Richardson would stay hot with 11 points in the second half, but Chris Davis ignited to score each of his 19 points after intermissions as the Mustangs' lead bulged to 16 points when Davis tipped in Trajinski Grigsby's missed jumper with 6:50 to go as MSU led 56-40.

Grigsby paced the Mustangs on the boards with nine rebounds, while starting guard Jordan Coffman added five assists in 10 minutes of play.

Latez Williams led St. Mary's with 10 points, while Robert Owens added eight points and pulled down seven rebounds.

St. Mary's fell to 5-6 on the season.
