WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Midwestern State's swarming defense forced Cameron into misses on its first eight shots and held the Aggies to 19.4-percent in the first half to build a commanding lead, then coasted to a 91-68 win Saturday night at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.
The Mustangs, who were up 50-23 at the break, got 18 first-half points from
Nolan Richardson IV as the junior guard finished with a game-high 21 points.
But Richardson had plenty help as
Christopher Reay and
Michael Godwin each finished the night with a double-double.
Reay had 12 points and a season-high 13 rebounds and Godwin has 12 points and pulled down 11 boards.
The Mustangs received stellar play from their point guard duo of
Jordan Coffman and
Russell Button as the two combined for 12 assists as MSU racked up 26 as a team on 39 made field goals.
Coffman, who was the lone Mustangs player who didn't score, sparked the team with seven assists and three rebounds while adding a block and a steal.
Button came off the bench to dish out five assists in 19 minutes of action.
Chris Davis added 15 points and three steals, while
Jeremy Ford had 13 points in a productive 17 minutes for MSU.
Cameron was led by Greg Morton's 18-point, eight-rebound performance, while Leslie Malone had a double-double with 13 points and 12 boards.
The Mustangs improved to 2-4 on the season, while dropped to 0-6.
Midwestern State will battle Texas A&M-Commerce next Saturday on the road. Tipoff is set for 4 p.m.
