WICHITA FALLS, Texas – West Texas A&M's Oliver Mulamba collected the ball off of a rebound and scored the winning goal in the 41st minute to give the Buffs a 1-0 win over No. 7 Midwestern State Sunday afternoon at the MSU Soccer Field.
The win gives West Texas A&M a share of the Southwest Soccer Conference championship as the Buffs and Mustangs each posted 7-1 conference records.
The teams split matches this season Midwestern claimed a 3-1 win in Canyon on Sep. 21.
The Mustangs fell to 16-3 on the season, while the Buffs improved to 16-2.
The teams will await selection for the NCAA Division Midwest Region Tournament to be held next week as the top two teams in the region lost matches this weekend.
Midwestern State carried the top ranking into the weekend and Metropolitan State (Colo.) was No. 2.
The Roadrunners fell to Colorado Mines 3-2 in the RMCA Men's Soccer Tournament on Friday night.
Selections are set to be released Monday afternoon at 2 p.m.
The Mustangs controlled possession throughout the match and outshot WT 16-6, but the Buffs managed to put five of their shots on goal including two in a volley off a corner kick in the 41st minute.
