DENTON, Texas - Midwestern State's
Andrea Buben opened the game on a personal 8-0 run as the Mustangs gave Division I North Texas all it could handle through much of Saturday night's contest at the Super Pit.
But MSU was unable to match the Mean Green's 16-0 run at the start of the second half as North Texas claimed a 70-60 victory.
The Mustangs, who fell to 0-3, will face Southwestern Oklahoma State next Thursday in their home opener. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.
Midwestern State, which was playing without junior guard
Brandy Moore, who averaged 18 points in her first two games of the season, placed four of its six players in double figures.
Senior guard
Stacey Staten paced Midwestern with 15 points, while
Brittni Morrison added 14.
Rosy Ofoegbu and
Andrea Buben added 10 points each.
North Texas was led by junior forward Amber Jackson, who finished with 19 points and six rebounds, while sophomore guard Brittney James had 15 points.
The Mean Green, who have now won five-straight games to improve to 5-2 on the season, outrebounded the Mustangs 50-31 and controlled a 21-6 advantage in second-chance points.
