FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - Barry (Fla.) University's three-headed monster of Kristy Singletary, Lucy Martinez and Princess Bailey combined for 41 of the Buccaneers' 53 second-half points as the pulled a away for an 82-69 win over Midwestern State Saturday in the Courtyard by Mariot Tipoff Classic at the Nova Southwestern's University Center.
The Mustangs had built a 36-29 halftime advantage on the strength of
Brandy Moore's 12-point half, while
Brittni Morrison had 10 points in the opening half.
Moore and Morrison finished with a team-high 16 points each, while
Kaylon Hodge and
Stacey Staten added 10 points each.
But the Barry trio got rolling after intermission as the Buccaneers used a 15-2 run after Staten canned a pair of free throws to give Midwestern a 58-50 lead.
But the time Bailey canned a 3-pointer at the seven-minute mark, Barry was in the lead for good 65-60.
Singletary, Martinez and Bailey combined to shoot 75 percent (15-of-20) including seven treys as Barry outscored Midwestern State 53-33 in the second half.
Singletary finished with a game-high 21, while Martinez had 19 and Bailey added 17.
Barry improved to 2-0, while Midwestern State fell to 0-2.
The Mustangs travel to Denton next Friday to take on Division I North Texas at the Super Pit. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
