WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Daniel Polk closed out a brilliant career with another spectacular performance Saturday afternoon at Memorial Stadium.
The 6-2, 202-pound rushed for an MSU single-game rushing record of 290 yards and connected on 14-of-22 for 187 more yards.
But Polk's record-setting day wasn't enough to lead No. 19 Midwestern State to win as No. 17 Abilene Christian's Bernard Scott scored three second-half touchdowns to pull the Wildcats to a 42-41 win.
Polk's 477 yards of total offense was the third-most in MSU history and it was the signal caller's third career 200-yard game as he now has notched the program's three best rushing games.
The Mustangs ran out to a 28-7 lead two minutes into the second half as Polk rushed for touchdowns of 14, 27 and 16 yards and
Steven Harper added a 1-yard TD run with 13:02 remaining in the first half.
The Wildcats closed the first half with a 14-3 run to close the MSU advantage to 31-21.
Harper added another touchdown in the third quarter to put the Mustangs up 38-21, but MSU was to hang on as Scott posted each of his three rushing touchdowns in the final 15:03 of the game to lead the Wildcats to the win.
The Mustangs posted their fourth 600-yard performance of the season by finishing with 654 yards of total offense including 467 yards on the ground which is the second most in school history.
