No. 8 Midwestern rallies past Missouri Southern, 4-1

JOPLIN, Mo. - Missouri Southern scored on its first shot here Friday night to take short-lived lead.

The lead lasted all of six minutes as midfielder Estevao Alexandre and Ahmad Ihmeidan scored goals six minutes apart to spark the Mustangs to 4-1 victory in a Southwest Soccer Conference game that featured six cautions and an ejection.

"It was a good result," MSU coach Doug Elder said. "We played well and with a lot of intensity."

Midwestern State earned a pair of yellow cards, but the Lions were booked five times, including an ejection in the 88th minute.

By then, the match was well in hand as Daniel Brown and Robert Swann added goals after intermission for the Mustangs, who improved to 14-2 on the season and 5-0 in the SSC.

Missouri Southern fell to 4-10-2 and 1-6-1.

The Mustangs continue their road trip Sunday in Tahlequah, Okla. when they battle Northeastern State at noon.
