En fuego! MSU routs Texanns for ninth-straight win

STEPHENVILLE, Texas – Midwestern State had the hot hand early Saturday afternoon against Tarleton State and rode it to a 30-17, 30-23, 30-22 win at Wisdom Gym.

"The girls were fired up and ready to play," MSU coach Venera Flores-Stafford said.

The Mustangs, who extended their current winning streak to nine matches, have now won 21 of their last 22 to improve to 23-3 on the season and 7-1 in the Lone Star Conference.

The win sets up a battle with West Texas A&M (24-7, 9-0) Thursday night at D.L. Ligon Coliseum for first place in the LSC.

"We have a lot of confidence and enthusiasm coming off a win like this," Flores-Stafford said. "I couldn't think of a better way to go into Thursday's match."

Sophomore Alysha Pritt provided the Mustangs with a quick start, delivering aces on her first two services of the match as MSU rolled to an 8-1 early advantage in Game 1.

The Mustangs were just as hot on the attack, putting down 13 kills in the first game while committing just a single error.

Midwestern kept the momentum rolling by reeling off the first five points of the second game as the Mustangs rolled to a three-game win.

Pritt, who finished with five service aces, also led a 12-block party for the Mustangs with seven stuffs, while reigning defensive player of the week Sesley Graves continued her stellar play at the net by adding five more.

Senior Whitney Maxwell paced the Mustangs with 13 kills with a .478 attack percentage, while Pritt and Jessica Ransom added nine kills each.

Allison Schreiber quarterbacked the MSU offense to a .337 hitting day and finished with 36 assists, while matching Ransom for the team high in digs with eight.

Tarleton State dropped to 11-14 and 4-6.
