WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Midwestern State peppered East Central with 34 shots as the Mustangs claimed a 2-0 conference win over the Tigers at the MSU Soccer Field.
The Mustangs, who dominated possession all night long, got a pair of unassisted goals from
Lauren Smith and
Megan Bibilone to improve to 9-3-2 on the season and 5-2 in the Lone Star Conference.
"We need to continue working on consistency," MSU coach
Jeff Trimble said. "But I'm proud of the girls for playing well and producing opportunities tonight. That's all you can ask."
The Mustangs kept the pressure on East Central and scored on a pair of deflections off of crosses into the East Central box.
Smith allowed one to settle 28 yards out in the 33rd minute and blasted her eighth goal of the season past ECU keeper Christie Sarginson to give MSU a 1-0 lead going into intermission.
Bibilone added her third goal of the season when she recovered a deflection inside the box in the 53rd minute to give MSU a commanding 2-0 lead.
Heather Primavera and
Ashley Meek combined for the Mustangs' sixth shutout of the season.
Midwestern State continues its homestand Sunday when it plays host to Northeastern State for Senior Day with kickoff slated for 3 p.m. The match follows the men's match against St. Mary's which is set for 1 p.m. at the MSU Soccer Field.
East Central fell to 6-9-2 and 3-5.
