MSU Tennis takes two from Central Oklahoma

WICHITA FALLS, Texas – The Midwestern State University tennis teams claimed victories over the University of Central Oklahoma Sunday afternoon in Lone Star Conference play at the MSU Courts.

The MSU men, ranked 23rd nationally and third in the NCAA Division II Central Regional rankings, defeated UCO, ranked sixth in the regional rankings 7-2.  The MSU women, ranked 33rd nationally and fourth in the NCAA II Central Region, downed UCO 8-1.

The men claimed all three doubles matches and five of the singles led by Brett Emerson, who is ranked 35th nationally.  Emerson defeated Thomas Hladil 7-6, 6-4 in singles and joined with Charles van Swelm to defeat the number one UCO doubles team of Hladil and Jonas Askeland 8-4.

The women won five of the six matches played and took three matches by default.  The region's number one doubles team of MSU's Michelle Beukes and Brenna Jackson downed UCO's Amy Cabato and Dominika Kovacikova 8-1.  Jackson also beat Cabato in singles 6-3, 6-2.  MSU's Faye D'Hamecourt won at number one singles as well, defeating Julie VO 6-4, 7-6.

The MSU men play again on Monday against Cameron at the MSU Courts, while the MSU women host a quadrangular meet with Eastern New Mexico, Southeastern Oklahoma and Northeastern State on Friday and Saturday.
