Brissia Montalvo enters her second season as an assistant coach for the Midwestern State track and cross country programs.
One of the most decorated runners in each of the program's brief history, Montalvo earned United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association (USTFCCCA) All-America honors after leading the Mustangs to Lone Star Conference and NCAA Division II South Central Region titles in 2011 on the way to an 11th-place national showing.
Montalvo, who is a two-time USTFCCCA all-region and all-conference performer in cross country, holds the school's 6K mark posting a 21:40.00 in the 2011 LSC Championships. She was named the league's runner of the year that same season.
She was just as successful on the oval becoming the first Midwestern State runner to advance to nationals. Montalvo claimed an 11th-place showing in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in the spring of 2012 as she also earned USTFCCCA all-region acclaim.
Montalvo maintains the program's all-time best time in the 3,000-meter steeplechase clocking a 10:41.04 in 2012.
