Taylor Johnston joined the Midwestern State women’s basketball coaching staff as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator in June of 2026.
Before arriving at MSU, Johnston was the varsity girls’ basketball coach at Legion Prep Academy in Dallas. He led his team to Texas Christian Athletic League state championships in the 2023-24 and 2024-25 seasons. Johnston produced four collegiate athletes after his first season, and Legion Prep Academy was named one of the ESPN Top 15 High School programs.
Prior to his time at Legion Prep Academy, Johnston was an assistant coach for the varsity girls’ basketball team at South Oak Cliff High School, where he interacted with coaches, players, parents and fans. While Johnston was on the staff from 2021-2023, the Golden Bears won a district championship and advanced to the Area Championship round.
Johnston has also been the Nike Lady Pro Skills EYBL head coach for the 17U team. In 2022, his team was 42-3 and reached the Nike Nationals Final 4. Johnston cultivated hardworking and focused athletes with an emphasis on teamwork and perseverance.
During his career, Johnston has helped develop 10 professional players and trained more than 100 grassroots players throughout a calendar year.
In 2015, Johnston graduated from Southern Connecticut State with a degree in computer science.
