Makinna Akers enters her first season as a graduate assistant at Midwestern State.
The former standout collegiate pitcher enjoyed a stellar career at Boston University from 2014-17.
Akers earned first-team All-Patriot League honors as a senior posting a 12-10 record with 2.08 ERA. She posted four shutouts helping the Terriers to a runner-up finish in league play. She was also named to the Patriot League All-Tournament Team.
The four-year letter winner closed her career with a 29-26 record with a 2.91 ERA over 110 appearances and 47 starts. Akers weaved 21 complete games and posted five shutouts.
Akers, who was twice placed on the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll, served as a player and coach in Germany for three seasons following graduation. She also served as an assistant coach at George Fox University, a strong NCAA Division III program in her home state of Oregon.
The Roseburg, Oregon native is working toward a Master of Science Nursing degree in the Family Nurse Practitioner program at Midwestern State.
