Tres Segler enters his fifth season as an assistant coach at Midwestern State in 2014-15.

Segler, who earned the promotion to the top assistant position prior to the 2012-13 campaign under Nelson Haggerty, is in charge of skill development and individual instruction of the MSU forwards and is heavily involved in recruiting, scouting, game preparation, and academic coordination for the Mustangs.

Segler graduated from A&M Consolidated High School in College Station, Texas in 2003. At Consolidated, he played for his father and coach, Rusty Segler. Together, with the help of his brother and father, the Seglers brought Consolidated basketball back onto the map as a top program in Texas. Segler was a two year captain for the Tigers, and he lead them to 28-8 and 24-8 records his junior and senior seasons that lead to playoff runs.

After graduation from Consolidated, Segler went on to the University of Texas at Austin, where he received his bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology Health and Science in 2007. He also served in several important capacities with the UT men's basketball team including head manager, recruiting assistant, camp coordinator and assistant video coordinator.

In the summer of 2007, Segler was named manager of the USA National Basketball Team (San Antonio, Texas) where he assisted coaches and players in drills and scrimmages during the team trials. This experience allowed Segler to work with some of the best college coaches and players in the nation. He also assisted in training sessions to prepare for the Global Games and other international competitions.

After receiving his bachelor's degree, Segler was elevated to graduate assistant for Rick Barnes and the Texas Longhorns basketball program. His responsibilities included creating and conducting individual player development workouts for all Longhorn basketball players. He also helped the coaching staff with video coordination, film exchange coordination, producing scouting and developmental edits for the team, as well as creating a video playbook and drills notebook for the University of Texas coaching staff. Tres worked with noted NBA stars Royal Ivey, PJ Tucker, Daniel Gibson, LaMarcus Aldridge, DJ Augustin, Kevin Durant, Damian James, Dexter Pittman, Avery Bradley, and Jordan Hamilton.

Segler earned his Master's in Kinesiology from the University of Texas in May of 2009, and was hired by former MSU Head Coach Grant McCasland in 2009.

Segler was promoted to First Assistant Coach when Nelson Haggerty accepted the Head Coach position for the Mustangs prior to the 2011-12 season. Segler’s considerable college basketball experience makes him a tremendous asset for Coach Nelson Haggerty and the Mustangs. Coach Segler’s recruiting ties and strong work ethic will make him a highly successful coach for seasons to come.

Basketball runs very deep in Segler’s family. His grandfather, Dave Segler, coached for more than 40 years at both the high school and collegiate level. His father, Rusty Segler, is well on his way to 40 years as a high school and collegiate coach as well. Basketball has been a part of his life since he was born, and he will bring his love and passion for the game to the Midwestern State basketball program.

Segler is married to Katherine Segler, a fifth grade teacher at Crockett Elementary. They are the proud parents to daughters, Hollis and Arden.
